There are six different options for wrapping paper this year. Golden swirls on a cream colored background, golden dragonflies on a cream colored background, alligators holding batons, dinosaurs in red and green sweaters, red and green snowflakes and, new to the scene this year: Hanukkah Dogs.

These are the Hanukkah Dogs:

A customer who wants their gift wrapped selects which paper from a laminated sheet of little square samples, hastily cut out. They chose at the register, then follow whoever is ringing them out to the big rolls waiting for them at the wrapping paper station. Here, depending the employees mood, the customer will receive either a beautifully wrapped gift or a you-get-what-you-pay-for-and you- are paying for nothing-because-the-wrapping-is-free-garbage present. The customer is always right and it’s not their fault they’ve been misled. The sample size of Hanukkah Dogs that they have to go off of at the register does not have the menorahs which are ALL OVER the rest of it. There is a dreidel on the sample, but it is so small that one has to squint to see it, something that these in-a-rush shoppers simply will not do. They just glance down say, “Dogs. Dogs are cute. I’ll take the dogs.”

The customers feel delighted with their choice. That is, until the inevitable fatal moment when they reach the wrapping paper station only to find out, whoops: they’ve accidentally converted.
